Planning Commission

The Planning Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month to review site plans for buildings and subdivisions in the Township.   Meetings are held in the conference room at the Township Hall.  Please use the north entrance.

Members of the Planning Commission are appointed to a three year term of office.  One member of the Township Board is a liaison member on the Planning Commission. If you are interested in serving on the Planning Commission, call the Township office and speak to the Supervisor.

What Does the Planning Commission Do?

The duties and responsibilities of a planning commission are defined by the Planning and Zoning Acts. The Acts were passed in response to local governments realizing the need for an independent, non-political entity to make decisions and recommendations regarding land use.

Along with the other appointed and elected municipal officials in your community, members of a planning commission accept responsibility to protect the personality and vitality of your community. To carry out their duties, these volunteers must digest a mountain of information and negotiate a maze of delicate situations.

The Charter Township of Monitor Planning Commission hears application submission and sends approval or denial recommendations to the Township Board of Trustees regarding:  Site Plans; Special Land Uses, Rezoning Requests, Platted Subdivisions and Condominium Developments and various development options contained in our current Zoning Ordinance #52.
